How it works

Why Illume Frame portraits
feel spatial, not flat

The concept is similar to Illume Box, but tuned for monochrome portrait storytelling. Illume Frame controls ray direction and tone mapping so grayscale portraits hold depth, contour, and emotional focus.

Illume Frame monochrome light field architecture showing point light origin, grayscale tone encoding, and lenticular ray steering.

1. Controlled backlight origin

The optical stack begins with controlled point-light origins instead of broad, unfocused panel light.

That precision gives Illume Frame the base needed for stable depth and clean portrait edges.

2. Ray shaping + grayscale tone encoding

Light rays are straightened and mapped through monochrome tone layers that carry highlight, mid-tone, and shadow data.

Portraits keep facial depth, contour separation, and gallery-style black-and-white contrast.

3. Lenticular steering for viewpoint separation

The front lens structure sends different ray bundles to different viewing angles.

Left and right eyes receive slightly different views, creating natural glasses-free 3D.

The result: portrait depth with artistic focus

  • Faces appear to sit in layered space instead of looking flat on glass.
  • Monochrome styling emphasizes shape, lighting, and emotion with less visual noise.
  • As viewers shift position, micro-parallax reveals subtle perspective changes.
